Something About Mary

Mary was born and raised in England, moving to the USA in 2001 with her husband. Currently, she splits her time between managing the household and teaching piano out of her home.

Mary began to play piano at age 5, and achieved the highest level of certification from the Royal College of Music at 18 years of age. She is classically trained, playing music from the renaissance to the modern era. She studied Elementary Education at Durham University, where she was a member of the Choral Society and St John's College Orchestra (Violin)

After receiving her degree she worked as a full time teacher in England for several years. While teaching, Mary was responsible for the music curriculum and for the performing arts aspect of school life, directing musical shows, concerts, regional exhibitions and performances.

After a break to raise her children here in the States, Mary returned to professional teaching in 2010 on a part time basis as a substitute teacher in the Fairfield City Schools district in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. After much pressure from a friend and encouragement from her own piano teacher, she agreed to take on their children as piano students. Her enjoyment of individual piano teaching grew and it was a great fit all round.

Before leaving Cincinnati, her music studio ran at 24 students of all ages, from 1st grade to adult. Recitals were a part of the teaching program providing a fun, if nerve racking experience for some!

Many of Mary’s students have used their piano education as a springboard to learning other musical instruments and voice development and have achieved great academic success also . Many of Mary’s students were entered into Ohio’s Music Education Association Competition, a statewide music assessment, achieving the highest level award.

Mary continues to enjoy playing piano and most recently has found herself as part of a jazz quartet. She has also spent time accompanying children for competitions and playing in the worship team at church. She teaches primarily from the Faber & Faber Piano program but has also helped students with specific music as requested.

She and her family have been based in Cave Springs, Arkansas for the last year. Mary is dedicated to giving clear and fun instruction, whilst maintaining top professionalism and excellence in learning. She has a dedicated music studio in her house - a perfect place for piano instruction.
